NEW, DUCTLESS HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS FROM MITSUBISHI NOW AVAILABLE FOR VANCOUVER HOMEOWNERS

Vancouver, WA If there's a specific room in your home that is hard to cool or heat, a smart, energy-efficient option is now available from Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling.

Mitsubishi  Ductless Mini-Split air conditioners and heat pumps can make any room more comfortable any time of the year, said Cody, Sales Manager of Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling. They are great for areas like sun rooms that get a little too warm in the summer and too cool in the winter.  Or a room addition that isn't connected to your duct work.  Perhaps a media room that generates a lot of extra heat.

Mitsubishi Ductless systems use a compact indoor unit connected to an outdoor unit through a small home in the wall. You don't need duct work, they are easy to install, and they help protect you from insects, weather elements and theft, Cody said.

These new Mini-Split air conditioners and heat pumps from Mitsubishi are extremely quiet, have great energy-efficiency ratings with ratings of up to 22 SEER and are ENERGY STAR qualified John explained. Standard window units blast air into the room at full force, but these Mini-Splits use inverter technology so they slowly ramp up to speed and evenly condition the space.

Oh. And there is a handy remote control, too.

A new heat pump may be a better heating and cooling option than Furnace and Air Conditioner

Vancouver, WA -- Heat pumps are often misunderstood or not understood at all. Because of this, consumers may not realize that there may be a better heating and cooling option than a traditional furnace or air conditioner.

"A heat pump is an all-in-one heating and air conditioning system that works year round to keep you comfortable.  During warmer months, a heat pump works as a normal air conditioner.  It extracts heat from inside the home and transfers it to the outdoor air.  In colder weather, however, the process reverses and the unit collects heat from the outdoor air to transfer inside your home," said John, sales representative of  Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling.

Even when the air outside feels cold, it still contains some heat. When there is not enough heat in the outside air to meet the demand of the thermostat setting, an electric heater supplements the outdoor air to warm the home.

"Heat pumps are capable of providing years of worry-free heating and cooling and significant savings on electric bills,"John said. The amount a consumer can save depends on many factors. For example, the efficiency of old equipment compared to that of a new heat pump can have an effect on how much will be saved. The climate in which a consumer lives, as well as electric rates, are also factors.

"Unlike a furnace that turns fossil fuel or electricity into heat, the heat pump collects heat that already exists in the outdoor air," John said.  "Consequently, a heat pump will produce two to three times more heat than the energy it uses."

A heat pump also produces savings while cooling a home. A SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rates cooling efficiency. A higher SEER produces greater savings. A SEER of 12.00 to 13.00 is typical in homes over eight or ten years old and a new, higher efficiency heat pump can be as much as 50 percent more efficient.

If a consumer's non-electric furnace is still working, an add-on heat pump is an effective option. "With a Dual-fuel system, the two systems share the heating load, but never at the same time," John said. "Each system operates when it is the most cost effective." The heat pump will be the primary heating and cooling system. However, when the temperature drops below the heat pump's set point, the furnace will take over until the temperature rises enough for the heat pump to operate more efficiently.

To find out more about heat pumps and how they can save on energy costs, call Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling at 1-360-835-9364. Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling has been providing service in the Vancouver, WA area for 25 years.

After a Flood, Take Precautions Before Starting Heating and Cooling Equipment

Vancouver, WA - After a flood that effects the furnace or outdoor unit homeowners need to take several precautions before attempting to salvage or restart heating and cooling equipment.

"Its important to remember not to immediately restart heating and cooling equipment
after a flood because in can be dangerous and could cause further damage," said
Cody, Manager of Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling in Washougal, WA. "Water affects
electrical equipment and machinery in several ways. For example, water will short-out
electrical equipment if electricity is on when water reaches it. This is one of the many
reasons why it is best to have a qualified service technician inspect your heating and
cooling equipment before it is started up after a flood."

Homeowners should not be too anxious to get things back to normal after a storm
because improper maintenance and preparation can cause problems years later.

To ensure your safety and prevent further damage to equipment, you should take the
following steps after a flood before power is reestablished in your neighborhood:

1)   Turn off all electrical switches (i.e. disconnects and breakers) to the heating and cooling equipment.
2)   Don't start equipment until you have it inspected and serviced by a qualified heating and cooling contractor. After the storm, have a reputable electrician or a technician from the power company or city inspect your homes internal wiring to make sure its dry and safe before power is reestablished to your home.

3)   If the power company gives you approval to turn on the electricity in your home, have the service company disconnect the equipment from the electrical source if you have not done so already.

4)   Use only reputable service companies. "A lot of unscrupulous companies can descend on disaster areas. Be careful. If necessary, go without service a little longer to make sure you get what you pay for," Cody said.

Homeowners should also be aware that the following factors will determine if their heating and cooling equipment is salvageable or needs to be replaced:

1)   The amount of time the equipment was underwater
2)   Whether the electricity was on when the water flooded the unit
3)   If the equipment is filled with dirt and debris
