It is not out of the ordinary to reach high temperatures of above 100* degrees outside in Vancouver WA by summers end and carry this high temperature for days. Who knows how hot it will get inside your home without a new Air Conditioner in Vancouver WA? It is true that a well insulated home can help to keep the heat out, but this insulation is also a factor day 3-4-5 of real hot weather. This highly efficient home does gain heat. Now you can't get rid of it! With vandalism on the rise, breaking and entering, weirdo's creeping in to peoples homes and bedrooms. Sleeping with the windows open can be a hazard as well and definitely has it's share of risks. Risks  from people, dirt, bugs, crawling in to the kid's falling out. We are in business to help our customers battle mother nature no matter what the weather outside. Heat Pump May Be a Better Heating and Cooling Option Than Furnace or Air Conditioner

Vancouver, WA -- Heat pumps are often misunderstood or not understood at all. Because of this, consumers may not realize that there may be a better heating and cooling option than a traditional furnace or air conditioner.

"A heat pump is an all-in-one heating and air conditioning system that works year round to keep you comfortable.  During warmer months, a heat pump works as a normal air conditioner.  It extracts heat from inside the home and transfers it to the outdoor air.  In colder weather, however, the process reverses and the unit collects heat from the outdoor air to transfer inside your home," said John, lead estimator of Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling, INC.

Even when the air outside feels cold, it still contains some heat. When there is not enough heat in the outside air to meet the demand of the thermostat setting, an electric heater supplements the outdoor air to warm the home.

"Heat pumps are capable of providing years of worry-free heating and cooling and significant savings on electric bills," John said. The amount a consumer can save depends on many factors. For example, the efficiency of old equipment compared to that of a new heat pump can have an effect on how much will be saved. The climate in which a consumer lives, as well as electric rates, are also factors.

"Unlike a furnace that turns fossil fuel or electricity into heat, the heat pump collects heat that already exists in the outdoor air," John said.  "Consequently, a heat pump will produce two to three times more heat than the energy it uses."

A heat pump also produces savings while cooling a home. A SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rates cooling efficiency. A higher SEER produces greater savings. A SEER of 12.00 to 13.00 is typical in homes over eight or ten years old and a new, higher efficiency heat pump can be as much as 50 percent more efficient.

If a consumer's non-electric furnace is still working, an add-on heat pump is an effective option. "With a Dual-fuel system, the two systems share the heating load, but never at the same time," John said. "Each system operates when it is the most cost effective." The heat pump will be the primary heating and cooling system. However, when the temperature drops below the heat pump's set point, the furnace will take over until the temperature rises enough for the heat pump to operate more efficiently.

To find out more about heat pumps and how they can save on energy costs, call Jake Gross at Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling, INC. Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling, INC has been providing service in the Vancouver, WA area for over 20 years.

Indoor Air Can Be Hazardous to Your Health
Indoor Air Can Be Hazardous to Your Health

Vancouver, WA -- Who would think indoor air can be hazardous to your health? Indoor air-- a pollutant? Unfortunately, that is often the case, said Cody, Manager of Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling, INC.
.

Exposure to air pollutants can be up to 100 times higher indoors than outdoors and the American Lung Association estimates that most people spend 90 percent of their time indoors, making indoor air quality (IAQ) extremely important. Many common household items contribute to poor indoor air quality. Compounds found in carpeting, furniture, upholstery, and drapery fabric constantly emit fumes. Other sources of pollutants can include cleaning agents, paints, and personal care products.

The tight construction of today's homes also contributes significantly to poor IAQ.  Things like weather-stripping and storm doors are designed to save on energy costs.  However, they also prevent proper ventilation by keeping indoor air in and outdoor air out. The result can be a build-up of contaminants within the home.

Poor IAQ can be the cause of numerous health problems. Medical groups report that as many as half of all illnesses are caused or aggravated by indoor air pollution. Pollutants within the home can cause homeowners to suffer from flu-like symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and respiratory irritation. Two health problems that can be aggravated by poor indoor air are allergies and asthma.  Even people who have never suffered from allergies can benefit from improved IAQ. Fortunately, several steps can be taken to ensure that your indoor environment is the safest.

"Thankfully, there are things a homeowner can do to help alleviate potential IAQ concerns. The first step toward improving indoor air is to identify the sources of air pollutants," said Cody. "Eliminating and reducing these sources are the most effective ways to clean the air. Although it is not possible to remove every contaminant source, reducing the sources and/or the number of pollutants they emit, will contribute to a healthier living environment."

A great way to minimize the concentration of pollutants is by thoroughly cleaning the home. Frequent dusting and vacuuming can help to reduce the number of dust particles in the air.

When you can't sweep away all the irritants, you should consider a PureAir Air Purification System from Lennox Healthy Climate Solutions.  PureAir is your best defense against all three classes of indoor contaminants and

Indoor Air Pollution

Vancouver, WA -- Cold weather is here and that means more time spent indoors.  Most people spend 90 percent of their time indoors, and 50 percent of all illnesses are either caused by or aggravated by poor indoor air quality (IAQ), said Kyle Kent, Manager of Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling, INC. According to studies conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, exposure to air pollutants can be 100 times higher indoors than outdoors.

Indoor air pollutants can be the cause of numerous health-related problems and can cause you to suffer from flu-like symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and respiratory irritation. They can also exacerbate existing illnesses such as allergies and asthma. Recent statistics show that more than 40 million people suffer from asthma and allergies.

Reducing the amount of pollutants in the air is the most effective way to improve indoor air quality. Frequent dusting and vacuuming will reduce the amount of dust and dust mites present in your home. However, not all airborne particles can be swept away, said Kent. Filtration devices like UV light, air filters, and air purifiers can eliminate particles that are too small to be captured by a vacuum.

Lennox’ Healthy Climate Solutions™ UV light units help decompose contaminants such as bacteria, chemicals, dust mites, animal dander, cat saliva, and mold through a process called photolysis oxidation. When the UV lights are installed in the ductwork of your central air and heat system, they can eliminate most of the organisms in the treated area.

Activated carbon and microbiocide treated filters, like the Healthy Climate PureAir air purification system can also purify your home’s air. Both the carbon and the microbiocide treated filters remove odor and kill bacteria, but the carbon filters are more adept at removing odor, and the microbiocide filters trap bacteria as the air is pulled through, which inhibits biological contaminants from growing.

The efficiency of air filters should be a top consideration as well. Efficiency is measured in terms of the particle size an air filter can capture. The higher the efficiency, the more effective it will be. Look for the filter’s MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) number, a new industry standard that rates filters based on their performance. Residential filters typically have a MERV range of 1-16. Higher ratings indicate more efficient filters. Healthy Climate MERV16 filters are the highest rated available and have been rated the #1 professionally installed whole-home filtration system three consecutive times by a leading consumer magazine.
Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) and Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) replace stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air. The HRV conserves energy from indoor conditioned air, and transfers it to the outdoor air as it is brought into the home to provide ventilation. The ERV does the same thing, but it also maintains the desired humidity levels to keep the house comfortable.
To find out more about how to improve your home’s indoor air quality or about purchasing an air filter, ERV, HRV, or UV light unit, call Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling, INC

A Bright Idea: Lennox Healthy Climate Solutions® UV Germicidal Lights

Vancouver, WA -- Many unseen, airborne biological contaminants may be present in your home. These contaminants can cause headaches, itchy eyes, runny noses, persistent coughs, and other cold-like symptoms. Installing a Healthy Climate germicidal light is a bright idea for any household, said John, lead estimator of Dan's Top Notch Heating & Cooling, INC.

"Our germicidal lights are effective in killing viruses, mildew, and other harmful molds and microbes in ducts and coils," said John. "This product delivers better indoor air quality by keeping key components on your HVAC system clean while treating the air that is sent into your house."

Germicidal lights are easily installed in the home comfort systems ductwork, and their ultraviolet light rays destroy surface and airborne particles by damaging the DNA of these harmful microorganisms. Besides the many standard safety features (a viewing port, plenum warning sticker, detachable power cord, and interlock switch at unit), an optional remote interlock switch prevents accidental exposure to ultraviolet light, and bulb replacement is easy. The remote switch comes standard with the UV-1000 and UV-2000 models.

"As with the rest of our Healthy Climate Solutions products, we left nothing to chance," John said. "We paid a great deal of attention to every aspect of the product to make sure it met our dealers and consumers high standards. We even have a bulb reclamation program to allow for environmentally safe bulb disposal."

High output lamps deliver the maximum amount of airborne microbe killing UV energy.  Custom High Output electronic ballasts give the new Healthy Climate germicidal lights unmatched power. The result is a higher kill rate of airborne biological contaminants at a single pass.

"Without a question, we set a new precedent in the industry by introducing the highest UV bulb intensity currently in the market," John said. "This high intensity comes with no added power consumption, the consumption is about the same as a normal fluorescent bulb. This product reflects our dedication to service, safety, and performance."

The new UV germicidal light is only one product from the Lennox Healthy Climate Solutions indoor air quality line. Also available are the Healthy Climate air purifiers, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, and filters.

I have been Challenged by my sister Pam to do the ALS bucket challenge. Being a business owner I did not want to just dump cold water on my head or just give $100.00. So I decided that I knew my neighbor was diagnosed last year with ALS. I have known him for many years and he was very concerned about having ALS. He was a Washougal Volunteer Fireman, and a member of the Washougal Bunch. Bob and I were not good close friends or anything but we worked together years ago at the Paper Mill and he purchased a Jeep from me years ago. Two years ago my company gave him a bid on a new heating system. After that when I talked to him about the heating system he told me about his diagnosis of ALS. He was very concerned about what it was going to do to him and his family. I decided that I would make my challenge about and for him. (Bob Dawson.) So, as it turns out, today, I was having a meeting about my ALS Bucket Challenge in my office. I decided that I wanted my neighbor Bob to be a big part of my challenge because I knew he had ALS and what he must be going through. I could not rightfully get them involved without telling Bob and his wife. After the meeting I went to Bob's house to talk to him and his wife about my plan. When I knocked on the door his wife Charlene answered the door and I asked her if Bob was home and could I talk to him. As her eyes filled up with tears she had to tell me that Bob had passed. He died last month she said very sadly. OMG!,,,, I am so sorry I said. She told me she thought they had a lot more time. I cannot imagine, and I am so sorry I did not know. Anyway, my bucket challenge will be about the late Bob Dawson and for this family. Dan's Top Notch Heating and Cooling Inc. with the help of Lennox will be donating a 100% free ductless heat pump to the Dawson family. (Thank you to our customers who make it possible!) And to Mrs Dawson we are truly sorry about the loss of your husband Bob. I will take the ice for Bob on Friday at 1:00pm on the corner of 6th and C Washougal WA. 98671 We will also have an open house with free hot dogs, hamburgers with water or soda. I will also give my $100.00 to the ALS organization. Stop by and join us, Friday September 5th 2014.
